Dried Thyme

Like many herbs, thyme is a member of the mint family and closely related to marjoram, oregano and basil. There are more than 100 varieties of thyme and the most commonly used are Mediterranean thyme and French thyme. Try using in soups, stews, roasts or potatoes.

Thyme was consumed as a cure for a hangover in the 18th century. A standard ingredient in Bouquet Garni, Mediterranean thyme possesses a hint of camphor and is spicy with notes of cloves and mint. Thyme is believed to strengthen the immune system and thyme oil, distilled from the leaves, has been used in tonics to treat depression, colds, and muscular pains.
