Turmeric or Haldi is a yellow coloured spice that belongs to the ginger family. The plant is native to the Southeast of Asia and is grown commercially, primarily in India. Turmeric was initially used as traditional Indian ayurvedic medicine as well as traditional Chinese medicine.There are different active ingredients in turmeric, among which curcumin is the main active ingredient. It has powerful anti-inflammatory properties and is a very strong antioxidant as well. Curcumin is a fat soluble component, which means it can break down and dissolve in fat or oil.
